TPU “Bibirevo”

The 2024 transformation of TPU “Bibirevo” turned it from a transit-only zone into a multifunctional transport hub aligned with livable-city principles. The design placed particular emphasis on pedestrian priority, improved transport logistics, and higher-quality public spaces within the metro station catchment area.

Traffic circulation on Pleshcheeva Street was significantly reorganized. For many years, the street had remained one-way for private traffic, reducing accessibility for local residents and complicating the servicing of social and transport infrastructure. After reconstruction, two-way movement was introduced along with a dedicated public-transport lane. For a long time, the area next to Bibirevo metro station had functioned as an underdefined interchange with little spatial identity; the comprehensive public realm upgrade adapted it to the needs of the contemporary city.

The project created not only transit corridors but also destinations in their own right: quiet rest areas, swings, and, further from the transport core, children's play and sports areas. Obsolete exterior lighting based on halogen fixtures was replaced with modern LED lighting, ensuring a comfortable and safe environment throughout the day and evening. The area lost its purely transit-oriented character and became a place for everyday activity and recreation.

The renewed TPU “Bibirevo” is an example of how an infrastructural object can act as a catalyst for broader urban development, combining transport efficiency with social attractiveness.
