Kremlin Embankment

This project transforms one of Moscow's oldest and most significant urban arteries - the Kremlin Embankment. Located at the foot of the ancient fortress, the site has for centuries formed the threshold between the river landscape and the monumental architecture of the Kremlin. In 2023, the design challenge was to integrate contemporary security requirements into this historic setting while preserving the visual integrity of the ensemble.

A layered spatial environment was created in which modern materials and small-scale elements relate carefully to the classical granite embankment and the Kremlin's brick walls. Protective elements were embedded into the landscape in a way that preserves visual connections within this UNESCO World Heritage context.

The completed project demonstrates a contemporary approach to urban design in which security is treated as an integral spatial component rather than an external imposition. It illustrates how present-day architectural solutions can be layered onto a historically evolved environment, combining the city's ongoing development with the preservation of its historical identity.
